Band
In the second part of the nineties singer/guitarist Felix Maginn and bass player Marc Driessen form Supersub. Guitarist Jan Bart Meyers and drummer Paul van Rijswijk join them and in a short period the band in this form conquer the Dutch, Belgian and German stages as well as the hearts of a loyal crowd. After some personnel changes Supersub has been playing for some years in its current line-up: Marc Driessen [30-03-1970, Amsterdam], keyboard player Paul Keyzer [24-04-'70, Zeist], drummer Rob Klerkx [21-01-71, Den Bosch], Felix Maginn [18-01-1969, Belfast] and guitarist Paul Willemsen [16-08-1979, Gouda].

Stages
During the Britpop Festival 'London Calling '97', hosting bands such as Stereophonics and Catatonia, Dutch press rate Supersub the best band of the festival. After that the band plays lots of festivals at home and abroad: Lowlands, Noorderslag, Pinkpop, Bevrijdingspop, Marktrock, Megafestatie, Parkpop, Festival for the Homeless and Oerol (two years in a row). Reviewers find Supersub are a great live-band, which results in supporting shows for Paul Weller, Stereophonics, Ocean Colour Scene, Dodgy and the Levellers. Supersub has frequented the club stages since forever with convincing enthusiasm.

Media
Not only reviewers, but radio and television makers alike, are impressed with Supersub. As a result the band play live, as a whole or in representation, in the following shows on Dutch television and radio: Moondive, De Plantage, Club Lek and De Avonden (VPRO); Leidsekade Live (KRO); With a little help from my friends (NPS); 2 Meter Sessies and Denk aan Henk (VARA); Flashback to Paul Weller (Veronica); Buzz (NCRV); ruuddewild.nl (BNN) and Kink FM. The album Mighty Baby in the second part of 2002, is given a warm welcome by the media: de cd gets good reviews and Supersub are frequent guests on national radio and television. The band play live sessions in these shows: Barend & Van Dorp (RTL4); De hele week-up (AVRO); Leuk is anders (VARA); Claudia (NPS); That's Live (BNN); Leidsekade Live (KRO); 2 Meter Sessies (now at Kink FM) and again: Club Lek (VPRO). From not buying to giving birth
From the first album 'Window Shopping two singles are drawn: 'Out on the Scene' and 'Push', the latter presented at the Noorderslag Festival. Window Shopping catches the attention of the press and promotors. 'Fly Pilot Fly', cd number two, again produces two singles: 'Where's the Love Gone' en 'Pads' (with great video). Both singles are successful. In the summer of 2002 Supersub present their third album 'Mighty Baby', released by Excelsior Recordings. The band have a hit single with 'Easy to run'. In October the single 'I wish' will be presented.

What's in a name?
On the North American continent a Super Sub is a large sandwich by a large food chain. The dictionary gives a rather unpleasant discription of 'sub'. The band states that the term is used in soccer: Supersub is named after soccer playing supersubs like Pierre van Hooijdonk and Youri Mulder. Teamplayers who can play unexpectedly spectacular. Modesty is one of the band's virtues, but their being 'spectacular' is not at all unexpectedly!

What's in a name?
Op het Noord-Amerikaanse vasteland is een Super Sub een groot broodje gezond van een grote broodjesketen. Van Dales omschrijving van 'sub' is niet erg vleiend. De band verklaart dat de term komt uit de voetbalwereld: Supersub heeft zich vernoemd naar voetballende supersubs als Pierre van Hooijdonk en Youri Mulder. Teamspelers die onverwacht spectaculair uit de hoek kunnen komen, dus. Bescheidenheid siert de band, maar dat 'spectaculair' is echt niet onverwacht!
